Proof of Ghosts?

We all know of at least one person who claims to have had an experience with ghosts or the paranormal. Most people toss these experiences up to the overactive imagination. However, it seems that people have been having these experiences for centuries and without explanation.

With modern day technology, present day ghost hunters have managed to capture some amazing things on film and audio. Pictures, video and audio recordings known as EVP have surfaced at an alarming rate. Granted, the same technology that allows for the capture of this evidence, also allows for modern day hoaxsters to create their own. This is an unfortunate situation, because it tends to discredit the entire field and lessen the value of real evidence. People have an automatic reaction of disbelief when given the chance of witnessing some of this evidence. Fortunately, these occurrences could care less whether someone believes or not and continue to happen, giving us the chance to capture even more startling evidence.

The purpose of this article is not to argue the validity of the current proof of ghosts or evidence that already exists. Rather, it is to discuss undeniable science and see how it could apply to ghosts and the paranormal. The main thing that I would like to discuss is thermodynamics.

The laws of thermodynamics are considered to be some of the most important laws in physics and are as accepted as the laws of gravity. When looking at these laws, we can start to see that maybe science has already provided proof that ghosts could in fact, exist.

The first law of thermodynamics states: “Energy can neither be created or destroyed. it can only change form.” This basically says that energy does not die, it simply changes form. it also says that there is a constant amount of energy within our universe at all times. Think about it. If energy has been proven by science to be indestructible, but have the ability to change form, then what happens to the massive amount of energy that makes us who we are, when our bodies cease to function? This is something very interesting to think about.

Could this basic law of physics explain the existence of ghosts? Could it explain the voices recorded on a regular basis that were inaudible at the time of recording? The misty apparitions or mysterious movement of objects? The human soul? I am not a physicist by any means, but by looking at this very important law, using a common sense approach, it seems as though these occurrences should be taken more seriously that they often are. Granted, people will say that our body becomes fertilizer and food for bugs and that is how our energy changes form, but take a look at yourself. Think of the amazing power of the human brain and body. Is this really a fair trade? Personally, it makes me want to take a second look at the current proof and evidence of ghosts. I hope that you have read this article with an open mind and will continue to question the unknown. Curiosity is the mother of all scientific fact. Whether we are right or wrong today, our curiosity will one day become undeniable scientific fact.

St. Augustine, Florida, which is appropriately named “The Nation’s Oldest City”, and the “Ancient City” by the locals has been known all throughout history for the ghosts and hauntings that are said to occur there. As a matter of fact, several professional paranormal investigators lay claim that this is also the “most haunted” city in the nation due to the stories of real ghosts and unexplained phenomenon. The spirits are said to be particularly strong here due to the lengthy, often violent history of at least four hundred years! Here, you will learn more about this spectacular hauntings and ghosts that seem to call this coastal city home.

The Huguenot Cemetery

The Huguenot Cemetery is considered to be one of the hottest spots for real ghost stories and paranormal activity – both by the locals and the tourists that travel to St. Augustine. One of the most popular ghost stories surrounding this haunted graveyard is that of the Judge by the name of John B. Stickney. While on a trip related to business in the year of 1882, this prominent individual was affected by typhoid fever and immediately died. His body was laid to rest in this cemetery. In the year of 1903, however, his body was exhumed in an effort to be located where his children lived. It was then that several gold teeth were said to have been taken.

Today, this judge is believed to be the “man in the tree”. In addition to this, it is believed that he paces the grounds of the Huguenot Cemetery on a regular basis. It does appear that he is in search of something, and many believe that it may be his teeth, while others believe that perhaps he is just lost. There is another spirit that seems to linger in the cemetery with the ever-popular judge, and that is a man by the name of Erastus Nye. Throughout this website, you will learn more about the ever-popular Huguenot Cemetery and the spiritual encounters that have been said to occur there.

The St. Augustine Lighthouse

The St. Augustine Lighthouse is another area where several ghosts have been spotted in ghost pictures, and even ghost videos. Sounds have been heard, apparitions have been seen by employees and visitors alike, and whispers have often been heard in the night. This structure is a little over one hundred years, but many things have occurred throughout history on the land that the lighthouse actually stands on. There are stories circulating that a distraught man hung himself in the home on the grounds that now serves as a museum, that one of the daughters of a lighthouse keeper that was employed there drowned during a tragic accident, and more! Here, you will learn more about this haunted location in the Nation’s Oldest City.

If you are interested in real ghost stories, ghost hunting, or just discovering the story behind all the paranormal activity in St. Augustine, Florida, you have come to the right place! Here, you will learn about the ghosts and hauntings of the “Ancient City”.

Ghosts and Orbs

In the paranormal community a belief in ghosts is pretty common place. If they are, or if they have a connection to, “orbs” seems to be divided.

Numerous photographs seem to exist showing both phenomena. Ghosts are typically a hazy humanoid transparent against the background of the picture in whatever dress the deceased would wear during their time of death. Orbs show up as small balls of light moving about in an environment or seem to be some type of photographic imperfection. To my knowledge, a ghost has never been caught on film as they appear in their pictures, while orbs have been seen moving everywhere and sometimes even appearing to open doors.

There is sure to be a connection between ghosts and orbs as some manifestation of someone who once lived and still seems to be earthbound. The disagreeance is if orbs really exist or if they’re dust, photo or camera imperfections, or some other things indiscernable in the frame, such as small bugs. Photographs can be hoaxed as can video, so while it is our strongest admissable evidence in courts of law, it really doesn’t give much proof to the paranormal community knowing hoaxers are out there.

Well known haunted places may give a clue as to the validity of ghosts and orbs in spite of the general public’s resistance to video evidence now because of hoaxers. Places like the Myrtle’s Plantation have had sightings of the typical transparent ghost spotted long before paranormal mania seemed to sweep the public in TV shows and specials. However, orbs often are not seen by a person or investigator naked eye and only spotted later on photographs or video, both unavailable in the time places like the Myrtle’s Plantation had sightings. Perhaps they did not have the technology to capture them on modern devices where orbs show up, but ghosts seem to be shy about.

If we are to prove the existence of either of these phenomena, if that is indeed the point of the investigations, our measuring equipment may need a facelift. Hauntings are not a modern phenomena, but over the years our equipment has changed and improved, so if we were to improve our devices to detect something more, or something else, maybe we’ll be able to shut the book on ghosts and orbs once and for all.

The Ghosts of Crowley Hall Movie Review by Trash Film Orgy

The Ghosts of Crowley HallThe Ghosts of Crowley Hall is a spooky new ghost hunters documentary by filmmaker Daren Marc. Workers renovating an old mental hospital with a dark history uncover some old bones behind a fireplace, and weird things start to happen to the construction workers. Tools go missing, and one worker claims to have been pushed down the stairs by unseen forces. The owner calls in a ghosthunting team to investigate.

The likeable young Arron Kasady leads the team. With his lengthy locks and “Punisher” T-shirt, he looks like your neighborhood comic book geek. There’s also medium Annabel Keogh, and Katherine Copeland, an attractive American parapsychologist, the token skeptic. And, of course, a film crew. The filmmaker wisely stays in the background and lets Kasady’s large presence do most of the heavy lifting.

They bring their night-vision lenses and EMF scanners and hold a séance, disturbing the ghost of the doctor who allegedly performed horrible medical experiments on his patients, and angering him in the process.

It’s spooky, all right, and I suppose the assumption is that the viewer is expected to believe in the supernatural as much as the ghosthunters. But to play skeptic for a moment, some of it’s a hard sell. Film can’t confirm the feeling of being followed, or cold spots, and the disturbing bangs and clangs off screen can’t be verified by the viewer as ghost activity. A skeptic would say the table moving during the séance could be attributed to a sympathetic unconscious desire to believe. And several spirit knocks solicited by Kasady are inaudible to this viewer, even as he makes a big deal out of them.

But they do get some footage of a mysterious figure in the hall, when all of the crew is accounted for, if you take the film’s word for it. And centerpiece of the film happens when a door slams shut and locks on Kasady, who gets attacked by spirits. When the door opens after a bit, he is helped out, and has scratches on his face. Back home where it’s safe, he has bruises about his face and body, like he’d been beaten. Scary stuff.

If you believe that ghosts attacked him, that part of the film would be terrifying. But of course, a skeptic would say, maybe he locked the door himself and beat himself up for the betterment of the film. As Mulder used to say, I want to believe. But as Mark Twain said, “Truth is stranger than fiction, but it is because Fiction is obliged to stick to possibilities. Truth isn’t.” Now chew on that. I guess that means I take it as entertainment and don’t know if I believe or disbelieve it. All I know for sure is that you’re not getting me inside that creepy old hospital!

For a change of pace, they periodically cut to the main characters back home commenting on what happened earlier. The onsite sound and thick British accents almost warrant subtitles, at least for non-Brits. The spooky music is good, but a bit intrusive; as I was left wondering exactly what sounds were mood music and what were spirit noises. I even momentarily considered the thought that the whole thing might be a hoax, or a piss-take, as the Brits might say, but the crew seem genuinely agitated and convinced that something horrible and unique happened at Crowley Hall. I give them the benefit of the doubt.

The ending is abrupt and anti-climactic. Otherwise well-made, GHOSTS…would have benefited from a short bit of background on the principals. Who are they? What’s their reputation and talents? We don’t really have a good picture of that. In the extras there is an interview with longhaired limey Kasady (the same one twice, actually – what’s up with that?) but since most of it was already used in the film, it gives the viewer little insight. And how did their harrowing journey affect them? Is Katherine still a skeptic? What attracted Marc to the project in the first place? These worthy questions go unanswered. It’s fairly creepy and engaging, nonetheless, and worth a look, even if you don’t totally buy into the ghosthunting stuff.

The Basics of Paranormal Investigation

The word paranormal comes from the words “para” meaning beyond, and normal. So the term paranormal really means something that is beyond the normal scope of science or being beyond a scientific explanation. According to the Journal of Parapsychology, the term paranormal describes “any phenomenon that in one or more respects exceeds the limits of what is deemed physically possible according to current scientific assumptions.”

Ghosts generate strong electro-magnetic fields. These fields cause disruptions in the magnetic field of a location which makes it detectable by both specialized equipment and psychics. Ghost hunters use many different types of equipment to detect an paranormal phenomena. A 35mm or digital camera is probably the easiest and least expensive way to begin. Pictures, whether digital or recorded on film have the ability to capture paranormal activity that is usually invisible to the naked eye. In addition to a camera, it’s important to have a flashlight since most paranormal investigations will be in dark places like cemeteries, basements, attics, or old buildings. Also, most investigations occur between 9pm and 6am when it’s dark. This is believed to be the best time to record paranormal activity. Along with the flashlight you’ll need extra batteries, since batteries will sometimes mysteriously lost all their charge during paranormal investigations, literally leaving you in the dark.

Once you have these basic items, you’re ready to start exploring the world of paranormal investigation. Some important things to remember are: never go on an investigation alone, and be respectful of the of the people, places and situations you encounter.

The first step in an investigation is selecting the place you’re going to investigate. Once you choose a location, be sure to get permission to access the property to ensure you won’t get into any trouble for trespassing. It’s also very important to do some research on the location before you go out and physically investigate it. You can go to the library and look up old newspapers, visit the local historical society to find out about the history of the place and if anything strange has happened there, and of course talk with the owner of the property.

Once you get all your data collected you have to analyze it. Every picture, video, audio recording is reviewed to look for any sign of a haunting. When doing your analysis, be sure to be skeptical. Make sure you rule out any explainable causes for anything odd that may show up. Check for mirrors, shadows, light sources or anything else that may cause something weird to be seen or heard in your collected data. Most of the time, the things you initially detected during your investigation will have real world explanations as opposed to supernatural ones. It’s important to make sure your evidence will stand up to any scrutiny by eliminating any other explanations. This will give your data more credibility.

Once you complete your analysis, you need to present your findings property owner. At this point you would recommend whether the owner needs to seek additional help, such a having the property blessed or if there is really nothing that needs to be or even can be done. Sometimes just having someone investigate the place and find nothing can help ease the mind of the person experiencing the haunting.

The Ghosts of Crowley Hall chronicles the investigation of one of Britain’s most haunted halls. The investigation stared back in early 2007, when Aaron Kadsdy began conducting tests by taking photographs. Those photographs produced strange images in certain rooms in the building. Kasady, then began to conduct a full investigation on the haunting of Crowley Hall in May of 2007. During that time, he brought a team of Ghost hunters. The team was comprised of a parapsychologist, a spiritual medium, a journalist and a film crew. They spend two nights at this place. During that time, the team conduced various experiments that were done in order to provoke paranormal activity through out the building. But thing didn’t go right for Aaron Kadsdy and his team, as they had to abort the investigation.

Now fast-forward to August of 2007, Aaron Kadasy and his team of ghost hunt returned to Crowley Hall to continue where they left off in their investigations. Both attempts are the basis for this film.

I’m one of those people that usually don’t see many of these ghost shows like Ghost Hunters and Paranormal State because I don’t put too much stock into the existence of ghosts, until I watched this film. I was frightened at times with The Ghosts of Crowley Hall. Maybe the reason I was scared during this document, was the fact that this event really took place.

Director Daren Marc does a very good job in documenting the failed attempts that Aaron Kasady and his team had. Marc doesn’t inject himself too much into the film unless he was asked to by Kasady. The team’s frightening moments were captured very well. There were a few dead spots there and here, but it’s supposed to happen in a documented investigation like this. I liked, how Marc also adds interviews before the attempts as he makes get a sense of what the main players in the investigation were going through in their minds before entering the haunted halls.

If there is one problem, I had with The Ghost of Crowley Hall, it was the fact that Daren Marc didn’t tie up the film with some closing thoughts about from Arron Kasady. It would helped given a little closure to what was happening with him and the team afterwards, but you can find in the bonus interview with Kasady, which is located in the bonus features section.

The end result with The Ghosts of Crowley Hall made me believe that ghosts really do exist. Also, I highly recommend this film particularly to fans of these paranormal series that I mentioned in the opening of my review.

The Paranormal has always fascinated me. Whether it be as a child when it terrified me, or as an adult where it became an obsession to prove to myself that there was something after life besides just death. Have I personally ever found anything concrete…not really only a few what ifs made it to me. Today in our world the paranormal is almost like having a second language, everyone delves in it. I have went to countless cemeteries, abandoned buildings and mental asylums and all I ever manage to get were dust orbs, a few unexplained glowing orbs, and an incident that caused me to run like the wind out of that place and I’ll never forget it.

Crowley Hall was built in the 19th century and served as a hospital. Then from the 1920-1930’s Doctor Leys and his wife Beatrice took over and it became a place for the criminally insane. Dr. Leys was noted as being a key figure in creating new treatments for mental illness in Northern England. Some say Dr. Leys liked to perform sadistic experiments on the more violent patients. It is stated that Leys death was from a heart attack but insiders new better and spoke of an operation gone wrong in which Dr. Leys ended up a victim from the patient he was treating. I guess he should of tied those restraints a tad tighter and he wouldn’t have ended up stabbed in the neck.

The Ghosts Of Crowley Hall is a documentary Arron Kasady and a team of other experts set out with a vengeance to make and you see their determination as well as many parts of this old historic building. When the team holds a séance things start to get interesting and are visited first by a man named Alfred and then by a spirit believed to be Leys himself. If you like shows like Ghost Hunters or if you like old abandoned buildings like me this film is for you. It was a little hard to hear some of the reaction bangs but none the less it was exciting to watch. I sincerely hope they go back and see what other things they can find out about this amazing historic place!

A ghost can be defined in several ways depending on different situations

A ghost can be defined in several ways depending on different situations. One of the definitions refers ghost to a person’s spirit or soul who has died. This definition is used commonly among all! There have been several doubts regarding the existence of the ghost and disputes too whether ghosts are just imaginations or part of objective existence. Reports say that ghosts have taken shape of vehicles, animals and humans. Parapsychologists have undertaken the task to study about ghosts.

The existence of ghost is met with the shape they exist which is usually in human shape very rarely animal ghost are encountered. It is said that it does not consists of any solid matter. Different parts of the world have different theories about the ghosts. The Western theory related to ghosts is that ghost is semi-transparent and does not interact or touch any physical objects directly. They state that paranormal ghosts are souls that could not find rest after death and they wander here and there to fulfill their goals. It is said that this is the time for them to take revenge thus killing people and making hindrances as seen in many of the movies.

There are many who do not accept the existence of ghosts. Scientific research disbelieves the fact that ghosts are disembodied souls or spirit, but then they prove that these ghosts are impressions of psychic energy left behind by a deceased person who is still living. They state that any tragedy in a person’s life might cause mental energy of some kind, which would be released to the world, and this energy might be experienced by many other people who are sensitive to the presence of such energy.

Ectoplasm is referred by the parapsychologists as the substance from which spirits and ghosts are made of. Such an explanation of ghost classifies it in the same category as that of preternatural unexplained phenomena as telekinesis or poltergeists, ESP and telepathy. Such a definition always makes it difficult to explain about the ghosts that tend to answer questions and those which foretell the future etc.

An astonishing fact is that the best details about the existence of ghost can be obtained from Garuda Purana, which is script from Vedic tradition of the Hindu religion. This Purana says that people who do sins will be reborn as ghosts. Garuda Purana explains the things done by the ghosts and the food they eat. It is said that they consume vomit, waste, cough, urine and tears and prefer these to be the things that they eat and drink.

In many cases, human psychology plays a major role in ghost sightings. In chilling situations where ghosts are associated with a natural animal response may make the hair rise which could be mistaken for a chill. Illusions can be created by one by seeing an eerie figure. This occurs as a result of the disability to sharply distinguish shapes in case of peripheral vision. It is a proved fact that sound waves with frequency lower than 20 hertz called infrasound is inaudible, but now it is proved by the British scientist Richard Lord and Richard Wiseman that these infrasound would be the reason for causing humans to feel a presence in the room or even to cause unexplained feelings of dread or anxiety!

Ghosts And Vampires Are Now Scientifically Impossible

As if Halloween isn’t in big enough trouble because of the ability of the everyday world to spook us, two of the fright night’s favorite ways of horrifying children have now been declared scientific impossibilities.

A scientist, determined to disabuse the public of its belief in the preternatural, has proved mathematically that vampires can’t exist.  Using a calculator, he determined that if a vampire sucked one person’s blood each month and, in the process, turned every victim into a vampire, who in turn began to bite other people at the same rate, after just a few years the entire human race would be vampires. To be exact, he started on January 1, 1600 with just one vampire and the current human population of 537 million.  According to his calculator, by July 1602 normal folks would have vanished. Since that doesn’t appear to be the case, the existence of even one vampire has apparently had the stake put in its heart.

Speaking about vanished, the same scientist, named Costas Efthimiou, attests that ghosts are an impossibility.  Why?  Efthimiou (don’t you just love this guy’s fit-for-a-monster name?) has determined that ghosts actually violate Newton’s law of action and reaction.  How so?  If ghosts walk, their feet apply force to the floor, which means they’re made of something. But, if they can go through walls, they have to be without substance.

What? Ghosts who want entrance to your home are now reduced to showing up at your door, like ordinary trick or treaters? How frightening is that, especially since you can always duck behind the couch and pretend no one is there?

Of course, if Efthimiou is right, you’d be right.  Nothing could be there.  It must have been the wind.

Tom Attea, humorist and creator of NewsLaugh.com, has had six shows produced Off-Broadway.  Critics have called his writing “delightfully funny,” “witty,” with “good, genuine laughs” and “great humor and ebullience.”
